Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya

The Department of Disability Studies is Sri Lanka’s premier academic and professional hub dedicated to disability inclusion, care, and allied health education. As the only institute in the country offering comprehensive undergraduate degrees in allied health, we equip the next generation of professionals through three cutting-edge BSc Honours programmes:

  1. BSc Honours in Speech and Hearing Sciences (BSc Hons in  SHS)

Speech & Hearing Sciences – offering two specialised strands:

    • Audiology - focusing on hearing assessment, diagnosis, and rehabilitation.
    • Speech and Language Therapy - addressing communication disorders and therapeutic interventions.
  1. BSc Honours in Occupational Therapy (BSC Hons in OT)
  • Occupational Therapy, centred on empowering individuals to engage in meaningful daily activities and supporting their health, well-being, and functional independence.

     

    In addition to our degree offerings, we are excited to launch, for the first time this year, a Higher Diploma in Special Needs Education; an innovative, practice-oriented programme designed to train educators and support staff to meet the diverse learning needs of students with disabilities.
