The Department of Disability Studies Offers Uok’s First Student Ambassadorship Program
The Department of Disability Studies of the Faculty of Medicine initiated the University of Kelaniya’s first ever Student Ambassadorship Program (SAP) with the aim of promoting healthy interactions and meaningful relationships with peers, leadership skills and a global mindset to education. Through this initiative, 13 student ambassadors led the the planning and implementation of the orientation program organized for new students enrolled in the BSc (Hons) in Speech and Hearing Sciences and BSc. (Hons) in Occupational Therapy Courses, through 3 weeks in April-May 2024.
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, Snr. Prof. Nilanthi de Silva engaged in conversation with students who volunteered as student ambassadors as she posed for the Student Ambassadorship Program-2024 official photograph. At this meeting with the Vice-Chancellor, students shared their experiences and made suggestions to improve the program in its next cycle. The Vice- Chancellor congratulated the department and students for this excellent initiative and expressed her wishes to see the program uphold and expand within all faculties of the university.Student Ambassadors were awarded with certificates of merit at the Faculty Board, Medicine on 06th August 2024.
In the ever evolving landscape of higher education, student ambassadorship programs offer undergraduates the opportunity for personal and professional growth, empoweing them to widen their horizons within global higher education and job markets.
