AUDIOLOGY CLINIC

ABOUT

The audiology clinic of the Department of Disability studies was established in 2007, together with Ceylon- Direkthilfe e.V. Germany through Sunflower Village. The clinic provides audiology services for a wide range of clients including newborns, infants, toddlers, school children, adolescents and adults .It also functions as a teaching-learning facility for audiology students, where students are given the opportunity to learn on-the-job the clinical skills required to become fully-fledged audiologist.

EARLY INTERVENTION & DEVELOPMENTAL SURVEILLANCE CLINIC

This clinic offers services to children aged 0- 5 years. The newborn infants at risk of developmental delay, and infants and toddlers with features of early developmental concerns are commonly seen.

 

SERVICES

All children undergo rigorous paediatric clinical assessment and developmental assessment. Bayley Infant and Toddler assessments are carried out on at risk infants to monitor developmental attainments and to detect any deviations on a regular basis. Early intervention is offered through the other clinics conducted in our department specially the multi-disciplinary clinic and the speech and language therapy clinics. The children are also referred to clinical geneticist services and audiology services for further assessments and interventions. This clinic also closely collaborates with preschools and other community based services to ensure best care for the infants and toddlers attending the clinic. Infant surveillance services are also extended to the North Colombo Teaching Hospital at the at risk infant clinic attached to the Professorial Paediatric clinic as a joint collaboration with the Department of Paediatrics of our University.

PAEDIATRIC DYSPHAGIA CLINIC

CLINIC SERVICE

The Department of Disability Studies offers a specialist paediatric dysphagia clinic every week on Wednesdays at the Ayati Center. It offers assessments, on-going intervention and management, reviews, discharge and follow-up for children with a range of feeding and/or swallowing difficulties due to biological, sensory and/or behavioural factors. The clinic aims to use an interdisciplinary team approach with close consultation with parents and clients in the evaluation and management of paediatric feeding difficulties. Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Psychology support is offered by the professionals of the Multi-Disciplinary Team Clinic as required.

SPECIALIST ADULT COMMUNICATION CLINIC

SERVICES

The clinics offer assessments and intervention for speech, language, communication and swallowing difficulties in adults with acquired/progressive neurological disorders. Therapy is offered as both individual and group therapy by speech and language therapy students under the supervision of experienced members of staff/speech and language therapists.

Regular clinics are offered on Wednesday 8.00 am to 4.00 pm and Friday 8.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon.

SPEECH & LANGUAGE THERAPY CLINIC

The Department of Disability Studies offers regular clinics from Monday to Thursday from 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. at the Ayati speech and language therapy clinics. Members of staff and external faculty (practicing speech and language therapists) together with speech and language therapy students offer assessments, on-going individual and group therapy sessions and reviews for children and adults with a range of speech, language, communication, voice and fluency difficulties.

 

SERVICES

The clinics offer individual assessments, consultation and monitoring by speech and language therapists as well as individual and group therapy sessions offered by speech and language therapy students under the supervision of members of staff/speech and language therapists.
