Opening of the Centre for Disability Studies

CDSMoU2

Following on from the signing of the MoU between the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Kelaniya with the Centre for Sign Linguistics and Deaf Studies of the Chinese University of Hong Kong in December 2014, the Centre for Disability Studies was officially opened in June 2015. The Guest of Honor at the opening ceremony was Prof. Barbara Shadden (Emeritus Professor of Communication Disorders at the University of Arkansas, USA and Senior Fulbright Fellow). The event was attended by Prof R.M.W. Rajapakse (Chair and Senior Professor, Department of Linguistics, University of Kelaniya), Mr. P. H. S. P. Dias (Lecturer & Coordinator of the Sign Language Diploma, National Institute of Education, Maharagama), Mr. Harid Hamdu (Freelance Sri Lankan Sign Language Instructor) and members of staff of the Department of Disability Studies.
Prof. Nilanthi de Silva (Dean) is the Director of the Centre.
