Community Projects by Batch 4 Year 4 Audiology Students

The final year Audiology students organized a series of projects in the month of July, 2015, with the primary objective of providing audiology services to the community. The projects consisted of the following;

Project 1 : Hearing screening with otoscopy, tympanometry and otoacoustic emissions 
Target group : Grade 1-5 students at Siddartha J.S. Vidyalaya, Batagama
Date : 3rd of July, 2015
Aim : To screen for audiologic and otologic problems and to increase the awareness of guardians regarding ear and hearing related problems of their school aged children.

Project2 : Screening for external and middle ear pathologies with otoscopy and tympanometry 
Targetgroup : 60 children at the Centre of Education of Hearing Impaired Children (CEHIC), Dalugama
Dates : 8th, 9th and 10th of July, 2015
Aim : to identify children with normal function of the middle ear and children with middle ear problems/  malfunction as well as to counsel parents on the need of assessing the middle ear status of their    children.

Project 3 : Educational workshop on hearing impairment, hearing testing, importance of follow ups, usage, care and maintenance of amplification devices, cochlear implant surgery, and communication  methods used with hearing impaired children 
Targetgroup : Parents of students at St. Joseph's Deaf School, Ragama
Date : 17th of July, 2015
Aim : To help parents of hearing impaired children expand their knowledge on the above areas.
