'Education Matters': Speech and Language Therapy, Audiology & Disability Research Forum

To disseminate local research undertaken by members of staff of the Department of Disability Studies to practicing speech and language therapists, audiologists and other healthcare professionals, the department organised 'Education Matters', a research forum on speech and language therapy, audiology and disability. The research forum was organised on the 12th December 2015 from 10.30 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. at the Sri Lanka Federation of University Women. The keynote address was by Prof. Peggy Gallagher (Senior Fulbright Fellow and Professor and Coordinator of Early Childhood Special Education at the Department of Educational Psychology, Special Education, and Communication Disorders of Georgia State University, USA) on 'Early intervention from birth to 3 years'. The main aims of the forum were to encourage the use of local theory and research evidence in clinical practice and to help establish a local evidence-base that takes account of our languages, culture, socio-economic and political realities.
