Faculty Excellence Awards

The Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya held its Excellence Awards Ceremony for the academic year 2023/2024 on 14 May 2026 at the Vistaara Hall of the Faculty. The event celebrated the outstanding achievements and contributions of students, academic staff, non-academic staff, and members of the extended faculty community.

The Chief Guest of the occasion was Senior Professor Nilanthi De Silva, Vice Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya. The event was also attended by Senior Professor Madawa Chandratilake, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, K.K.K. Dharmatilake, Registrar of the University, distinguished invitees from other faculties, students, academic staff, and non-academic staff members.

Addresses were delivered by the Chief Guest Senior Professor Nilanthi De Silva, Dean Senior Professor Madawa Chandratilake, and Dr. Pavithra Godamunne, Head of the Department of Medical Education. Awards and certificates were subsequently presented to the recipients.

As the pioneer of such an awards scheme within the Sri Lankan state university sector, the Faculty continues to recognise and encourage excellence across multiple domains. The ceremony included the presentation of the Dean’s List, Faculty Awards, and Faculty Extra-Curricular Tributes (FEAT) for students of the MBBS, BSc Speech and Hearing Sciences, and BSc Occupational Therapy programmes. Teaching Excellence Awards for academic staff, Excellence Awards for non-academic staff, and Dean’s Special Appreciation Awards for contributions towards faculty development and student welfare were also presented.

This year, two new award categories were introduced: the Excellence Award for Academic Support Staff and Certificates of Recognition for students who secured placements within the top 100 of the Common Merit Order List for Internship Appointments at the Final MBBS (Main) Examination.

The awards ceremony reflected the Faculty’s continued commitment to recognising diverse forms of excellence and achievement within its community. Heartiest congratulations are extended to all award recipients, while also acknowledging the efforts of the Department of Medical Education, Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya for coordinating the event successfully.
