The BSc Honours in Occupational Therapy program is a comprehensive and accredited academic course that leads to BSc Degree in Occupational Therapy. This program holds the distinction of being the first university-approved program of its kind in Sri Lanka. Successful completion of this program equips graduates with the professional competence necessary to lawfully practice as Occupational Therapists in Sri Lanka.
The course curriculum is meticulously designed to provide students with a strong foundation in theoretical knowledge and practical skills essential for excelling in the field of Occupational Therapy. The program encompasses a dynamic blend of classroom-based learning and hands-on experience in a variety of healthcare, educational, and rehabilitation settings. Through a modular structure, students engage in a comprehensive range of subjects, allowing them to gain invaluable exposure to diverse aspects of occupational therapy practice.
The ultimate objective of the BSc Honours in Occupational Therapy program is to train highly competent Occupational Therapists who possess the indispensable knowledge, attitudes, and skills required to deliver exceptional rehabilitation services to individuals facing diverse physical, mental, and developmental challenges and their families. Graduates of this program play a pivotal role in increasing awareness and understanding of disabilities that lead to occupational dysfunction within the wider community of Sri Lanka. Moreover, they actively contribute to the academic development of the field through research initiatives and continuous professional growth.
The program spans four years, consisting of two semesters in each year, and requires a minimum of 120 credits for successful completion. During the final year, students undertake a mandatory research project to further enhance their skills and knowledge in their chosen area of focus. Assessment is conducted on a module basis, necessitating the successful completion of all modules to obtain a BSc Honours Degree in Occupational Therapy.
