Library Awards Ceremony - 2025

The Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya, held its annual Library Awards Ceremony on 7th April 2025 at the Main Auditorium, in celebration of World Health Day under the theme “Health Literacy in the Digital Age.” The event was organized by the Faculty Library in collaboration with the Faculty Library Committee and the Students’ Library Committee.
This meaningful occasion aimed to promote the use of library resources, recognize student engagement, and strengthen the academic community’s connection with the library.
Awards were presented to the winners of the Best Library User in 2024, the Poster Competition on World Health Day, and the Online Library Quiz competition.
The academic staff members who rendered their services to the Health Camp in 2024, conducted as part of the Library Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, as well as those who served on the judging panel for the poster competition held in conjunction with the Library Awards Ceremony, were formally acknowledged with letters of appreciation in recognition of their commendable contributions.
The event also marked the official launch of the publication, Medical Library News, Volume 03. The ceremony featured a keynote address by Dr. Asvini D. Fernando, Former Professor, Department of Paediatrics, Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya, titled “Violence against Children”, offering a thought-provoking perspective on a critical public health concern.
Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, was invited to serve as the Chief Guest at the Library Awards Ceremony. Although she arrived at the venue, she was unable to participate in the event due to an urgent virtual meeting. The event was graced by Prof. Madawa Chandrathilake, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, along with academics and officials including: Prof. P. Paranitharan, Chair, Faculty Library Committee, Dr. Lakmini Marasinghe, Senior Assistant Librarian and Secretary, Faculty Library Committee, Dr. Sujeevani Kurukulasuriya, Chairperson, Organising Committee of the Library Awards Ceremony, Dr. Deepa Gunasekera, Former Chair, Faculty Library Committee, Mr. Chethaka Senadeera, President of the Student library Committee, Heads of departments, members of the Library Committee and the Student Library Committee of the Faculty, academic staff of the Faculty and the Main Library, Senior Assistant Registrar, and Senior Assistant Bursar of the faculty.
