New Police Post opened at Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya

A new police post was recently declared open near the premises of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya, as a key initiative to strengthen the safety and security of students, staff, and visitors to the Faculty and the adjoining Colombo North Teaching Hospital, Ragama.

The facility was officially opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, with the participation of the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) – Peliyagoda Division, Heads of Police Divisions for the area, the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Ragama Police Station, members of the academic and non-academic staff, and the President of the Medical Faculty Students’ Union.

Manned by two police officers around the clock, this post will not only provide dedicated security to the university community but also contribute to improving public safety in the surrounding area.

This initiative complements a series of proactive measures already implemented by the Faculty to enhance student safety, including the installation of CCTV cameras, improved street lighting, the establishment of an additional entrance, regular security patrols, and training programmes in self-defence for students.
