A Memorable Showcase of Ethical Dilemmas: Medical Ethics Drama Presentation 2025

The students of the MBBS 32nd batch took the stage with creativity and ethical reflections for the much-anticipated Medical Ethics case Presentation, held on the 24th of January, 2025, at the Main Auditorium of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya. This event brought together students, academics, and distinguished guests, fostering a deeper understanding of medical ethics through the powerful medium of drama.

The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Hemamal Jayawardena, child protection specialist at UNICEF, Prof. Madawa Chandratilake, the Dean of Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Shehan Williams from the Department of Psychiatry and academics from the Department of Forensic Medicine.

The dramas presented during the event explored complex ethical dilemmas faced by medical professionals, ranging from patient confidentiality to decision-making in critical scenarios. The event provided students with a platform to express their perspectives and engage with ethical questions in innovative ways

The event also included a heartfelt felicitation ceremony for Dr. Hemamal Jayawardena, recognizing his remarkable contributions to the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya, and his tireless dedication to child protection in Sri Lanka. This tribute highlighted Dr. Jayawardena's role as a trailblazer in forensic medicine and his enduring commitment to nurturing a safer and more ethical society.

The third place was awarded for the case presentation group B, for the drama titled, “Dr. Miracle”. Group G emerged as the runners-up for the drama titled, “udr fodia;r”. The winner of the case presentation was Group H, for their captivating performance in their drama titled, “wjika úksYaph”. Ms.N.P.R.Nethmini was awarded the title of The Best Performer of the case presentation for her outstanding performance of portraying the role of a pregnant mother in the drama titled, “In Safe Hands”.

As we concluded this memorable event, the participants and attendees left with not just a deeper understanding of medical ethics but also an enduring sense of pride in their shared commitment to the values that reinforce the medical profession.
