The sixth batch of the Certificate Course in Information Technology, consisting of 54 students, successfully completed their 10-week training at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya. The training took place from January 11st to March 15th, 2025. Organized by the Health Data Science Unit, the course was conducted by its staff on Saturdays at the faculty in Ragama.
We aim to serve the public by enhancing ICT skills, especially targeting the higher education requirements in ICT and assist school leavers in developing their prospects in the job market in the ICT field. This course primarily emphasizes the buildup of skills in MS Office applications, especially MS Word and MS Excel, with the confidence of using ICT for day-to-day life.
Since its inception, the course has run successfully and attracted students largely because the faculty of medicine being a reputable academic institution in the country and has skillful ICT staff and lab facilities to offer successful training in ICT. Also, the faculty offers this course for an affordable fee for people of this country utilizing its well-equipped computer labs on weekends. And also, we were able to contribute to the administration by generating additional income for university. It is important to highlight that students showed strong enthusiasm for improving their computer skills throughout the course and as a result participants improve skills, and confidence in ICT.
