The Launch of Bloom - 2026

The launch of Bloom 2026, the annual English-language creative writing collection of undergraduate students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya, was held on Friday, 12th March 2026 at the Vistaara Hall.

This year’s edition features a rich and diverse collection of poems, short stories, reflections, and artwork contributed by students of MBBS Batch 34, BSc Speech and Hearing Sciences Batch 15, and BSc Occupational Therapy Batch 2. The editorial team was led by Chief Editor Mr. Venura Balasuriya (MBBS Batch 34), while the publication was coordinated by the academic staff of the English Language Teaching Unit: Mr. Arosha Rodrigo, Ms. Raveesha Kavindi, and Ms. Nethmi Ariyasinghe.

The launch event was both vibrant and memorable, showcasing the creativity of students not only through the publication itself but also through a series of song and dance performances. A highlight of the evening was the ceremonial presentation of the magazine to the invited guests.

The occasion was graced by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Senior Professor Madawa Chandratilake; the Head of the Department of Medical Education, Dr. Pavithra Godamunne; and the Head of the Department of Disability Studies, Dr. Thilini Lokubalasuriya, along with members of the academic staff.

Beyond celebrating student talent, Bloom serves as an important platform for nurturing English language proficiency while fostering empathy, reflection, and compassion through engagement with the Medical Humanities.
