The newly established Clinical Examination Center was declared open on 26 February 2024 in the multipurpose building of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya. The Centre is dedicated to facilitating clinical examinations, OSCEs and many other types of clinical assessments. This initiative aligns with the strategic vision of the faculty to use physical spaces to their fullest potential by transforming available spaces to multi-purpose and adaptable areas.

This versatile centre is equipped with 16 collapsible beds and movable partitions for seamless clinical examinations and OSCE. Beyond assessments, it serves as a dynamic space for tutorials and compact lecture sessions and an additional space for written examinations. Ensuring a conducive learning environment, the facility is fitted with modern audiovisual aids and air conditioning systems.

Professor Shamila De Silva from the Department of Medicine spearheaded the concept of repurposing this space for clinical assessments, supported by generous donations of Rs 2 million from academic members of the Department of Medicine and well-wishers. Their collective contribution is deeply valued in enriching the educational journey of students. The work was planned and completed within three months with the efficient and professional input of MG Medicals Pvt Limited, who supplied and installed the equipment.

The center will host clinical examinations and OSCE sessions for MBBS, BSc SHS, and OT students, further enhancing the educational landscape at the university. It is another milestone in providing a high standard education to students at the faculty. The center will come under the administrative purview of the Department of Medical Education.
