Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya recognized for the research contributions and impact made in the field of Hepatology
The research studies carried out by the academics of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya, have been recognized by the Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hepatology, for the outstanding contributions made towards the scientific research on Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease in the Indian subcontinent.
The review article, “Research on Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease from Indian Subcontinent: A bibliometric Analysis of Publications during 2001-2022” published in the Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hepatology in 2023, has examined the bibliometric characteristics of the publications arising from the countries in the Indian Subcontinent, including Sri Lanka, on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, over the last two decades.
According to the review, the University of Kelaniya has been identified as the most productive research organization in the field and has secured the 9th place out of the 10 most impactful research organizations in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
Academics from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya, Prof. M.S. Niriella, Prof. A.S. Dassanayake, Vidya Jyothi Prof. H.J. De Silva, Prof. A. Kasturiratne and Vidya Jyothi Prof. A.P. De Silva have secured the top most places among the 10 most productive and the 10 most impactful authors among the researchers from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
This achievement is a testament to the excellence of the academic staff members of the faculty in research, teaching and clinical practice.
