HDSU successfully completes the first Certificate Course in Microsoft Applications for school leavers
The first batch of 39 students of the Certificate Course on Microsoft Office Applications, held at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya, has successfully completed their training of a 08-week period between March 4th and May 20th, 2023. This course was organized by the Health Data Science Unit of the Faculty of Medicine and was conducted by its staff on Saturdays at the Computer Centre of the Faculty in Ragama.
The primary objective of the course was to provide practical training and knowledge on the use of Microsoft Office applications, specifically MS Word and MS Excel. Unlike traditional theoretical teaching methods, the program took a hands-on approach to ensure that the students gained skills and confidence in utilizing MS Office applications for their day-to-day functions.
The combination of being offered by a reputable academic institution with experienced staff in practical MS Office application use and teaching, as well as an affordable course fee, made this program particularly attractive to students. The availability of underutilized high-level computer lab facilities and qualified information technology teaching staff on weekends presented an opportunity for the University of Kelaniya to generate additional income through this program.
During the course duration, the teaching staff observed a remarkable level of interest and enthusiasm among the students to develop their skills. It is expected that the participants have gained valuable knowledge, skills, and confidence from this program, which they will be able to utilize in the future.
