I joined the Department of Pharmacology in the University of Kelaniya as a founding member of academic staff in 1993 and have helped develop the department over the last 30 plus years. In 2005, I established the Clinical Trials Unit in the University of Kelaniya in collaboration with the Clinical Trials Service Unit in Oxford. I am a recipient of many research awards including President’s awards for scientific publication on numerous occasions. I am a member of the British Pharmacology Society and a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, London. In 2019, I was awarded the titular honour ‘Vidya Jyothi’, Sri Lanka’s highest award for science.
I teach a variety of aspects of pharmacology, clinical pharmacology and fundamentals of therapeutics to students of Medicine. I also organize and supervise training in clinical trial methodology to postgraduate students of Clinical Pharmacology.
