RESEARCH ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT

The Ragama Stroke Unit is a major centre for stroke research in Sri Lanka. It is home to the Ragama Stroke Registry, the first prospective hospital based stroke registry in the country. It is the national centre for the SITS (Safe Implementation of Treatments in Stroke) International Stroke Registry, and the focal point for a network of Stroke Registries in Sri Lanka. It is a recognised collaborating centre for international multi- centre clinical trials into stroke; these include several completed clinical trials such as VITATOPS, ENOS, CHIMES and HeadPost, and the ongoing TRIDENT trial. Research from the Ragama Stroke Unit has won many national and international research awards.
