Strengthening Ties: Faculty of Medicine, Kelaniya, Engages in Capacity Building at Mahidol University

A delegation from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya, led by the Dean, visited Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand, to participate in a capacity-building program on quality assurance, research, and public health. This visit followed an invitation from Mahidol University, extended after their delegation’s visit to Kelaniya earlier this year.

The delegation included academics representing Public Health, Medical Education, the Examination Unit, Green Practices, and Quality Assurance, reflecting the comprehensive scope of the program offered by Mahidol. Two students—the Student Coordinator of Quality Assurance and the top-performing student in Public Health— and a member of the academic support staff were also included in the team upon the Dean’s request and were warmly accepted by Mahidol.  The opportunities extended to the students and the academic support staff reflect the Faculty’s vision of strengthening professional identity and fostering internationalisation by providing global exposure and responsibilities beyond the classroom. The entire visit was generously sponsored by Mahidol University.

The collaboration proved highly fruitful, laying the foundation for strengthened partnerships between the two universities in areas such as research, curriculum development, training, and capacity building. Several further delegations from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya, across different disciplines, along with students, are scheduled to visit Mahidol University in the near future, further deepening this important academic collaboration.
