The most recent group of 44 students from the Certificate Course in Information Technology, conducted at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya, successfully completed their 10-week training from February 17th to April 27th, 2024. This course, managed by the Health Data Science Unit of the Faculty of Medicine, was held on Saturdays at the Health Data Science Unit of the Faculty in Ragama.

The primary aim of this course is to broaden ICT exposure for the general public, meet the higher education demands in ICT, and aid school leavers in enhancing their employability. Unlike traditional teaching methods, the program focused on hands-on learning to ensure students acquired skills and confidence in ICT and MS Office applications, particularly MS Word and MS Excel, for daily tasks.

The course's attraction to the students stems from its association with a respected academic institution, knowledgeable staff in ICT, practical MS Office application training, and the affordable course fee. The availability of advanced computer lab facilities and experienced IT instructors on weekends allowed the University of Kelaniya to generate supplementary income through this program. Throughout the course, instructors noted students' keen interest and eagerness to develop their abilities. It is hoped that participants have acquired valuable knowledge, skills, and confidence to apply in their future endeavors.
