Prof. Madawa Chandratilake assumed duties as the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine.
Professor Madawa Chandratilake was elected as the seventh Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Kelaniya and assumed his duties in the post on the 25th of September 2023.
Prof. Chandratilake holds the Cadre Chair and is a Professor in the Department of Medical Education. He earned his MBBS from the University of Colombo and furthered his education by obtaining an MMEd and PhD from the University of Dundee in the United Kingdom. His research contributions have earned him multiple Presidential Awards for Research.
Prof. Chandratilake serves as the Co-chair of the Global Health Research Training Steering Group for the National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR) in the UK. He also leads the Global Health Research Unit for South Asia. His dedication to medical education extends to his service in the Accreditation Unit of the Sri Lanka Medical Council, where he played a pivotal role in securing recognition from the World Federation of Medical Education for medical graduates in Sri Lanka. Prof. Chandratilake has previously held the position of President at the College of Medical Educationists in Sri Lanka and was honoured with a fellowship from the same institution. He serves as the Head of the UNESCO Bio-Ethics Nodal Centre in Sri Lanka. He holds the position of Chairperson of the Board of Study in Medical Education at the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo.
At the University, he has held various key roles, including Head of the Department of Medical Education and Faculty Coordinator for Quality Assurance, Strategic Planning, and Staff Development. He is the immediate past president of the Kelaniya University Faculty of Medicine Teachers' Association (KUFMTA).
