We are a group of researchers from Sri Lanka from the universities of Kelaniya, Colombo, Ruhuna, and Rajarata, with a special interest in gastrointestinal physiology and functional gastrointestinal disorders.
Our main research areas include variations in normal gastric motor functions, gastrointestinal motility disorders, and epidemiology, pathophysiology, and management of functional gastrointestinal diseases. Most of our research activities have focused on constipation and functional abdominal pain in children. We have looked at the brain-gut interactions in these disorders, especially the impact of psychological factors such as emotional stress, adverse life events such as exposure to abuse, personality types, and behaviour profiles.
Currently, we are collaborating with research groups with similar interests in other countries such as the Netherlands and Nigeria, to explore the epidemiology, pathophysiology, and management of functional gastrointestinal disorders.
