Dr. Fernando teaches to a diverse range of undergraduate students pursuing degrees in Medicine, Speech and Hearing Sciences, and Occupational Therapy, covering a wide range of topics in pharmacology and clinical pharmacology. Additionally, he serves as a visiting lecturer at General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, teaching pharmacology to nursing students.

 
Being an early career researcher, Dr. Rumal Fernando has directed his research endeavors toward the exploration of non-communicable diseases, with a particular emphasis on metabolic disorders and cardiovascular medicine. He possesses a keen interest in clinical trials and aspires to make significant contributions in this field in the future, leveraging the resources and opportunities provided by the clinical trials unit established within the faculty.
