Maithri is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Family Medicine from June 2022. He also holds the posts of Assistant Secretary, Sri Lanka Medical Library from 2021 and CPD Chair of College of Specialist Family Physicians from 2023. He is also a Part time General Practitioner in Kelaniya from 2004 to date. Before joining the university, he worked in the Ministry of Health from 2000 to 2022 and was the Consultant Family Physician DH Kadugannawa, Kandy from 2021 to 2022.
Maithri was an International Visiting academic fellow, Western Sydney University and observer GP, Bridgeview Medical Practice, NSW from 2019 to 2020.
Maithri is an international member of the Royal College of General practitioners from 2011, Fellow of the College of General Practitioners from 2017, Life member of the Palliative Care Association of Sri Lanka from 2015, Life member of the Geriatric Association of Sri Lanka, Direct life member of the World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA) from 2016 and is a member of the College of Specialist Family Physicians from 2021.
He is an examiner and mentor in MCGP Diploma conducted by College of General Practitioners from 2014, examiner in MRCGP (INT) examination from 2016 and an examiner and trainer in Postgraduate Institute of Medicine from 2022.
His research interests are asthma and non-communicable disease in primary care/ general practice setting.
