- E M Wijerama Prize for the best oral paper at the 136th SLMA Anniversary International Medical Congress 2023, the paper “Assessing reversibility of liver fibrosis in patients with transfusion-dependent beta thalassaemia following intensive chelation” by Padeniya AGPM, Ediriweera D, Niriella MA, De Silva A, Premawardhena AP.

- University Grant Commission Grant: Recipient of a research grant of Rs: 4.8 million (the maximum ceiling amount for a local candidate) for the research project on Evaluating Chronic Liver Disease due to iron overload in patients with beta thalassaemia major and assessing the reversibility of liver fibrosis with an aggressive chelation protocol.
- National Science Foundation Grant: A travel grant of Rs. 200,000/- to attend the 16th Human Genome Meeting, Sydney, Australia. March 11th -14th, 2012.
- Recipient of the scholarship awarded by Central Manchester University Hospital, Manchester, to attend the “Manchester Dysmorphology Course” from November 1st – 3rd, 2011
- September 2010 to August 2012, recipient of the NOMA scholarship to follow the MSc in Clinical Genetics funded by NORAD and managed by the Centre for International Co-operation in Higher Education, Oslo, Norway.

- Conducted genetic awareness creation sessions island wide and have carried out sessions at all major hospitals including teaching hospitals of Karapitiya, Anuradhapura, Ragama, Peradeniya and Jaffna. This was organized by the Health Ministry of Sri Lanka in order to prevent the occurrence of genetic diseases and reduce birth defects in the community.
