

In celebration of World Down Syndrome Day on March 21st, the Ayati Center, Ragama, has been conducting a month-long parent awareness program to educate families about the management and care of children with Down syndrome. The program allows parents to learn from experts, clarify concerns, and gain practical strategies to support their child’s development.
The program has completed several sessions led by professionals:
Medical Support (March 6th): Dr. Sachitha De Silva (Senior Registrar in Community Paediatrics) covered medical needs and healthcare management.
Physiotherapy (March 14th): Ms. Emashi Sachithra and Ms. Priyanwada Wijayasinghe focused on improving motor skills and movement.
Occupational Therapy: Ms. Aloka Prabhath and Ms. Rashmi Dilrangi discussed enhancing daily activities and sensory integration.
Speech & Language Therapy (March 20th): Professor Shyamani Hettiarachchi, Ms. Hasini Iranthika, and Ms. Naduni Mudunkotuwa addressed speech and feeding challenges.
Then Educational and Psychological support sessions will be held on 27th of March.
This initiative has empowered parents with essential knowledge, fostering a supportive community. The Ayati Center remains committed to enhancing the quality of life for children with Down syndrome, ensuring they receive the best possible support and care.
