About the Center

The Learning center at ‘Ayati’ focuses not only on the Academic development but, the emotional, social, and physical development of a child. This is created to emphasize the development of the whole child. The center creates an opportunity for children to explore, examine, experiment and ask questions about the world around them. Children learn through interactive experiences from their environment and the center provides parents with an opportunity to plan, specific subjects through play and engaging activities. Play is considered an active form of learning which involves the cognitive development as well. The main focus is child-initiated exploration and discovery.
The facilitating staff at learning center include, consultant psychologist in special education, special education teachers and speech and language therapists specialized in education. Education center functions from Monday to Friday 8.00 am to 4.00. pm and Saturday 8.00 am to 12 noon.
The types of disabilities supported at the unit include Learning disability/Dyslexia, ASD, ADHD, Intellectual impairment, Trisomy 21, Children with rare syndromes, CP and CVI. In supporting students to keep up with their academic and social expectations in inclusive school settings, the unit mostly focused on remedial education, often training parents, care givers and teachers how to work with children. The unit provided special support for students sitting for National examinations, providing them with study skills and exam taking skills training.


Our Services


  1. Individual therapy sessions for the children and adolescents who need education support focusing on independence skills, the social and emotional self, routines, teaching respect for themselves and others, and academic skills.
  2. Conduct school readiness groups. The program ensures various play based opportunities to learn new skills, as well as refine existing abilities to support the skills that your child will require prior to starting school.
  3. In addition, the unit also conducts group sessions such as reading circles, math meetings, and exam preparation groups ensuring that children have opportunities to interact with one another.
  4. Additionally, the unit provides services such as conducting education assessments, addressing parent grievances pertaining to schools, liaising with education authorities, addressing teacher concerns, preparing students for competitive state examinations, and providing letters to authorities in ensuring students receive accommodations and modifications at school and during exams.
  5. The center also provides Individualized Educational Programs (IEP) for appropriate students at Ayati. The multidisciplinary team completes their individual assessments, understands the student’s strengths and needs and develops a comprehensive IEP which offers the provision of appropriate accommodations and services to facilitate the student’s learning.
  6. The center also provides individual telehealth sessions for the clients who are not able to do regular visits due to the Covid 19 situation in the country.
  7. Clinical training for the undergraduate speech and language therapy students is also provide under the supervision of speech and language therapists at the center. Year 2 and final year undergraduate speech and language therapy students are trained on the intervention and management of clients with learning difficulties.

Future Plans

  1. Recruit teachers from the Ministry of Education so that the work done at the unit is sustainable.
  2. The unit is planning to systematize our data collection processes so that we could monitor student progress carefully and intervene in a timely manner.
  3. The unit is planning to conduct research on evidence-based practices, as many students who are supported by the unit show remarkable improvements. Documenting these interventions used and building evidence-based practices should be made a priority area at the unit.
