“Lumière 2020” : The Annual Speech Camp

The Annual Speech Camp “Lumière 2020”, organized by the English Language Unit of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya in collaboration with MBBS Batch 31 and SHS Batch 12 was successfully held on 30 th of January 2020 at the Pre-Clinical Auditorium in the faculty premises. The objective of the “Speech Camp” was to showcase the talents of undergraduates whilst enhancing their English language competencies.

“Lumière 2020” consisted of a stage performance session, which included several segments such as dramas, fancy dress parade, singing and dancing items. The “Speech Competition” which was conducted for the second time grabbed the attention of the audience this year too. Each and every undergraduate from MBBS Batch 31 and SHS Batch 12 participated in the preliminary rounds of the Speech Contest. In that round students were selected for the semi-final round through which 10 contestants were selected from prepared and impromptu speeches. This year, the winner of the Impromptu Speech Contest was Bawantha Abeygunawardana from MBBS Batch 31 and the winner of the Prepared Speech Contest was Kavini Liyanage from MBBS Batch 31.

The event was graced by Senior Prof. P. S. Wijesinghe, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya as the Chief Guest. Prof. Madawa Chandratilake, Former Head - Department of Medical Education, and other academic and administrative staff members of the faculty graced the occasion.
