Student Innovation for Global Health Technology (SIGHT) is a Global Health elective programme conducted by The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. This year, SIGHT Programme partnered with the Department of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya to provide community engagement experience to their electives. The student teams from the two countries partnered to deliver community interventions at Pallewela, linked with the Community Attachment Programme under the Community Health Strand. After four months of virtual interactions, the interventions were delivered in early June with the help of the Batch 33 partnering students. The interventions addressed issues related to water and sanitation, waste management and nutrition in the area.
The award ceremony to appreciate Batch 33 students involved in the SIGHT project was held at the Conference Room of the Department of Public Health on 4th June 2025 with the attendance of the Dean, Prof. Madava Chandrathilake. All students who partnered in the project received certificates of appreciation for their contribution Two fellowships were awarded for the two best performing partners from the Kelaniya medical undergraduates, to visit The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology as student ambassadors for the SIGHT Programme. We congratulate Mr. Priyanga Ranasinghe and Mr. Suchintha Prabhashana on being the fellowship winners and their excellent contribution to the programme.
