Training Workshop on Multidisciplinary Approach to Stroke Care, Ragama
Improving skills needed for stroke care was the main objective of the Regional World Stroke Day Programme 2015 at Ragama. An interactive hands-on skills training workshop on multi-disciplinary care in stroke rehabilitation was held at the Colombo North Teaching Hospital.
There were 75 participants consisting of health care personnel of all categories from the Colombo North Teaching Hospital, Ragama, the Ragama Rehabilitation Hospital, and 4 regional hospitals (Gampaha, Wathupitiwala, Kiribathgoda, Minuwangoda). Several informal paid caregivers too were given the opportunity to participate in the workshop. The workshop was conducted by 12 resource persons from the Ragama Stroke Unit.
The emphasis of the workshop was on interactive, small group, hands on training, with the aim of skill development for stroke care. Participants rotated between the training stations of physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, nursing care and mental health support.
