The Department of Medical Microbiology participates in teaching Basic microbiology, Infectious diseases and Immunology for the undergraduate medical students during Phase 1 & Phase 2 of MBBS degree programme which enables the students to gain appropriate knowledge required to function as doctors when encountering with patients with infective diseases or when involving in control of such diseases in the hospital and the community

Undergraduate Programmes

The Department provides teaching for the undergraduate students of MBBS, B.Sc. (SHS) and B.Sc (physiotherapy)

Postgraduate Programmes

The Department provides training for the Diploma in Medical Microbiology trainees and MD trainees.

Mycology Laboratory

  • Direct Microscopy - done for skin, nail scrapings, nail and hair clippings, skin and tissue biopsies, pus. Look for yeasts cells and fungal hyphae under microscope high power in KOH
  • Fungal Culture - done for skin, nail scrapings, nail and hair clippings, skin and tissue biopsies, pus. Use special media for growth and then identify the fungal pathogen by special tests.
