15th INPALMS International Congress – Kolkata, India (2025)

The Department of Forensic Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya is proud to highlight its active contribution to the 15th International Congress of the Indo-Pacific Association of Law, Medicine and Science (INPALMS 2025), held in Kolkata, India from 7th to 11th November 2025. This prestigious triennial conference is jointly organized by the Indo-Pacific Association of Law,
Medicine and Science (INPALMS) and the Indian Academy of Medico-Legal Experts (IAMLE), with support from leading international bodies including the International Association of Forensic Sciences (IAFS) and the International Association of Clinical Forensic Medicine (IACFM).
Senior Professor P. A. S. Edirisinghe, President of the International Association of Clinical Forensic Medicine (IACFM), represented our faculty and Sri Lanka at this significant international forum. In her capacity as IACFM President, Prof. Edirisinghe delivered a keynote address on:
“Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in Southeast Asia: The Duty of the Forensic Medical Expert in Victim-Centered Care.”
In addition to this invited lecture, the Department contributed original research to the congress. As part of an ongoing collaborative research project with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), titled:
“Extents, Dimensions, and Trajectories of Sexual and Gender‑Based Violence (SGBV) in Sri Lanka – An Integrated, Multisectoral, Interdisciplinary Study (2013–2024)”,
preliminary findings were submitted as abstracts and presented at the 15th INPALMS Congress.
Participation in INPALMS 2025 reflects the Department of Forensic Medicine’s continued commitment to:
- International academic leadership in forensic and clinical forensic medicine
- High‑quality, policy‑relevant research on Sexual and Gender‑Based Violence
- Global collaboration to advance victim‑centered medico‑legal practice
The Department remains dedicated to strengthening forensic medical education, research, and service delivery at national and international levels, in alignment with the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya.
