The teaching / learning and assessment method will not be formal and structured. However, the, teaching / learning and assessment method will reflect the Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs) of a given SSC. The assessment methods in most instances will not be conventional (e.g. MCQs, OSPE /OSCE) but work-based.

Is it compulsory for all students?

The SSCs are entirely optional for students. The available SSCs will be made public through the website / VLE each year. Students, who are interested, should complete and submit an online application. Students are offered the SSCs on the 'first come first served' basis.

What will students gain by doing this?

This will be an opportunity for students to expand their knowledge and experience in medicine and related subjects in a less stressful environment. With the successful completion of SSCs students will be awarded a certificate of completion from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya. The certificate will help strengthen your Curriculum Vitae. Most importantly, it will be a very enjoyable learning experience.

Who coordinates the SSCs?

The SSC programme will be coordinated by the Department of Medical Education (DME).

What are the Intended Learning Outcomes of the SSC programme?

  1. To enhance the interest and motivation for learning among students through the diversification of the learning experience
  2. To enhance the engagement of students with the academic staff by means of sharing the specialized knowledge and special interests of the staff
