Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya develops mobile applications for patient management in collaboration with Arthur C Clarke Institute for modern technology (ACCIMT) and Mobitel Lanka PLC
The department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya has developed mobile applications for patient management. One of these applications serves patients with a stoma following surgery for rectal or colon cancer, where this application act as a communication platform between patient and healthcare providers. Second application is to manage breast cancer patients from their initial contact visits, until they have completed their due surgery and follow-up care.
This is the first time in Sri Lanka to develop mobile applications for patient management. The ACCIMT and Mobitel Lanka PLC provided the technological support in developing these applications and Mobitel Lanka PLC is providing hosting facilities to this national endeavor.
The memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed between the University of Kelaniya, ACCIMT and Mobitel Lanka PLC on 22nd February 2017 at the University of Kelaniya. This occasion was graced by senior professor Sunanda Madduma Bandara, Vice-chancellor, University of Kelaniya, senior professor Nilanthi de Silva, Dean Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Kemal Deen, Chairman, ACCIMT and the officials from Mobitel Lanka PLC.
Dr. Nalinda Munasinghe, Dr. Dileepa Ediriweera, Dr. Suchintha Tilakerathne of Faculty of medicine, Mr. Rohana Dassanayake, Mr. Pulasthi Bethmage, Mr. Heshan Arjuna, Mr. Sameera Sampth of ACCIMT and Ms. Jean Ferndinandez, Ms. Gayangi Karunaratne, Mr. Harsha Weerasena, Mr. Damitu Kirtisinghe of Mobitel Lanka PLC were also participated representing the development team.
