Dr Lakmali Amarasiri
The lung function laboratory is under the supervision of Dr Lakmali Amarasiri, a senior lecturer who currently teaches respiratory physiology to medical and non-medical undergraduates of the Faculty and postgraduate trainees of the postgraduate institute of medicine. She has served as a resource person for numerous training sessions and workshops on lung function testing. Her Ph.D. thesis was based on the association of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease with asthma and involved in-depth assessment of upper gastro-intestinal motility and over 500 individual spirometry tests on patients. Since then she has been performing spirometry on patients who are referred from the Colombo North Teaching Hospital, Ragama and other hospitals in the Gampaha District and general practitioners in the area. She also trained in allergy testing and spirometry at the Alfred and Monash University in Melbourne, Australia and advanced lung function testing as a Commonwealth Academic Fellow at the Lung Function Unit, Royal Brompton Hospital in London, UK.
