Centre for Health Informatics, biostatistics and epidemiology (CHIBE) conducts research including interdisciplinary studies, offers short courses and training for undergraduate, postgraduate students and healthcare staff, and design and develop healthcare information systems.

About Us

Our research group consists of epidemiologists, biostatisticians, medical informaticians and health geographic information system specialist which gives unique resource pool to conduct interdisciplinary research. The CHIBE provides educational programs and training course on health informatics, biostatistics and epidemiology to undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as to healthcare professionals of Ministry of Health and other professional bodies. In addition, CHIBE involve in designing and developing information management systems to manage healthcare data.
Aims of the CHIBE:
  • Facilitate and expand research activities relating to health informatics at the Faculty of Medicine
  • Offer short courses and training in the fields of Health Informatics, Biostatistics and Epidemiology
  • Design and implement healthcare information systems
Eminent researchers, academics and staff of Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya will provide their expertise, knowledge and skills to the CHIBE and involves in conducting collaborative interdisciplinary research with foreign Universities including The Grantham Institute of Imperial College, London, Lancaster Medical School and Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, United Kingdom.
