 Awareness Programme on Dengue and Waste Management Practices for Households in Ragama

Dengue Prevention Committee of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya organized an awareness programme on dengue and waste management practices in collaboration with the officials from Ja-Ela Pradeshiya Sabha and Medical Officer of Health office, Ragama on 3 rd February 2018. Officials representing Public Health Inspectors, Health volunteers and 50 first year medical students participated for this event.

Team was divided in to groups and visited households covering the vicinity of Faculty of Medicine. During these visits team inspected households for vector breeding habitats and educate residents on proper waste disposal practices. In addition, they distributed a leaflet indicating the waste collection schedule of the Pradeshiya Sabha with the objective of formulating the waste collection practice with active participation.

This event was coordinated by Dr. Nayana Gunathilaka, Chairperson of the Dengue Prevention Committee. Dr. Wasanthi Subasinghe, representing the Center for Sustainability Solution, University of Kelaniya, Mrs. Erandi Wagalath, Senior Assistant Registrar, Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya and Mrs. Nandani Padmakumari representing the Dengue Prevention Committee of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya also actively participated for this programme.

The programme was sponsored by the Center for Sustainability Solution (CSS), University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka.
